Abelia Vasquez

On the evening of Wednesday, August 5, 2026, Mrs. Abelia Vasquez went to be with the Lord at the age of ninety-one. She was born on December 15, 1934, in Kenedy, Texas to the late Eliseo and Manuela Flores. Later in life she went on to marry Manuel Vasquez Sr. on November 25, 1948, in Kenedy, Texas cherishing sixty-five years of a loving marriage before he preceded her in death on February 9, 2014.

Abelia’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with devotion to her family and a radiant joy that she shared with all. She found happiness in the simplest pleasures, from the camaraderie of cheering on the Chicago Cubs, to quiet mornings spent reading, to spirited rounds of bingo. A lover of good food, Abelia could often be found watching her favorite cooking shows or exploring new culinary delights online, her inquisitive spirit forever undimmed.

Above all else, it was Abelia’s boundless love for her family—especially her grandchildren—that defined her. Her home resonated with laughter, stories, and the kind of deep familial affection that only someone with a heart as generous as hers could inspire. To know her was to be welcomed, to feel understood, and to be uplifted.

Her absence leaves an irreplaceable space, but those who loved her find comfort in the many memories shared and the profound influence she had upon their lives. Her kindness, sense of humor, wisdom, and unwavering support will be remembered always.

She is preceded in death by her parents Eliseo and Manuela Flores; her husband Manuel Vasquez Sr.; a son Arturo Vasquez; a daughter Francis Vasquez; brothers Jose Flores, Chindo Flores, Beto Flores, Pete Flores, Isreal Flores and Erasmo Flores; sisters Florinda Lopez and Tulis Shoemaker; grandsons Isaac Mendoza, Ben Vasquez and Joshua Mendoza; a daughter in law Lupe Vasquez.

She is survived by her sons Manuel Vasquez Jr. (Leticia) of Wolfforth, Eliseo Vasquez of Lubbock, Felix Vasquez of Idalou, Adan Vasquez of Round Rock and Abel Vasquez (Yolanda) of Round Rock; daughters Margaret Garcia of Idalou, Christine Flores (Alfredo Flores) of McKinney, Vicki Vasquez of Round Rock and Liza Vasquez of Idalou; a brother Ike Flores (Antonia) of Lubbock; a sister Elisa Castillo (Anastacio) of Utah; twenty six grandchildren, fifty two great grandchildren and twenty great great grandchildren.

Viewing and visitation for Mrs. Abelia Vasquez will begin 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., Monday, August 10, 2026, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. the same evening. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel with Father Martin Pina officiating. Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.
