On the afternoon of Sunday, May 3, 2026, Mrs. Angelita Gutierrez went to be with the Lord at the age 80. She was born on December 17, 1945, in Poteet, Texas to the late Benselado and Refugia Perez. Later in life on August 13, 1966, Angelita went on to marry Pedro Gutierrez Sr. in Tahoka cherishing fifty-nine years of a loving marriage. Their love was an example of a true testament of friendship, commitment and honor.
Angelita was a strong and present pillar of the Tahoka community. For many years she served The Senior Citizens Center of Tahoka, making a meaningful impact on the lives of many through her dedication and passion. Angelita's commitment to ensuring seniors received nourishment went beyond a job; it was a testament to her compassionate spirit and her genuine desire to help others.
A dedicated and faithful Catholic, Angelita was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, where she served as a Guadalupana.
Angelita’s warmth extended into her personal passions. Quilting was her favorite past time; she crafted beautiful quilts that brought comfort and joy to family and friends alike. The art of quilting was more than a hobby for her—it was a means of expressing her love and creativity. Angelita also enjoyed playing bingo, going to casinos and most importantly, spending time with her beloved family. Being surrounded by those she loved filled her heart with happiness. Angelita was the heart of her family, that adored her.
She is preceded in death by her parents Benselado and Refugia Perez; three brothers Pedro Perez, Juan Perez and Benito Perez; and a granddaughter Jenyssa Gonzales.
She is survived by her loving husband Pedro Gutierrez Sr. of Tahoka; two sons Pedro Gutierrez Jr. (Lorena) of Levelland and Oscar Gutierrez (Nanette) of Lubbock; a daughter Rosemary Gutierrez of Lubbock; two sisters Anna Perez of Lubbock and Rosalinda Garcia of Abernathy; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Viewing and visitation for Mrs. Angelita Gutierrez will begin Wednesday, May 6, 2026, 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel-Tahoka. Second day viewing and visitation will begin Thursday, May 7, 2026, 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., with a rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. the same evening. Funeral Mass will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2026, at St. Jude Catholic Church with Deacon Paul Murrillo officiating. Burial will follow at Nevels Memorial Park under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.
