Belino Sosa Mecalco Sr.

October 22, 1939 — May 18, 2025

Viewing for Mr. Belino Sosa Mecalco Sr., 85 of Lubbock will begin Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel with a Funeral Mass beginning at 3:00 p.m. the same day at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Deacon Joe Martinez officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.

On the afternoon of Sunday, May 18, 2025, Belino went to be with the Lord. He was born on October 22, 1939, in San Francisco, De Asis, Durango, Mexico to the late Tomas and Estefana Mecalco. On November 19, 1969, Belino married the love of his life, Maria Marta Nava, in Tahoka. Their union blossomed into a beautiful journey of thirty-six years filled with laughter, understanding, and unwavering support for one another until Maria’s passing on August 16, 2006. The depth of their love continues to be an inspiration to those who knew them.

As a farmer and ginner, Belino dedicated his life to nurturing the land and fostering a spirit of generosity that flowed abundantly into the lives of those around him.

Known for his jovial spirit, Belino could often be found barbecuing, relishing in the warm company of family and friends, or indulging in his favorite pastime—fishing. A humble man, he took great pleasure in simple joys, whether it was strolling around the local track or unwinding while listening to his Vicente Fernandez cassette tape, which never failed to uplift his spirits.

In addition to his hobbies, Belino was a devoted sports fan, rarely missing out on a football game or the latest boxing match, declaring Canelo Alvarez as his favorite fighter. His evenings were often spent watching the news and CNN. Always curious about the world around him and making sense of life’s unfolding stories. He found solace in the rhythm of the routine, which included his nightly tradition of eating corn flakes with bananas—a staple that sparked nostalgia and warmth.

Deeply committed to his faith, Belino was a regular presence at church, finding strength and community in his beliefs. His warmth and generosity touched so many lives, and he will be remembered fondly by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Belino was known for his warm spirit and compassionate nature. He found immense joy in helping his grandchildren, always eager to lend a hand and share life's lessons with the younger generations. His family will forever cherish the memories they have with him and Belino will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Maria Marta Mecalco; daughter Claudia Estefana (Mecalco) Villanueva (July 11, 2016); brother Jose De Luz Sosa Mecalco and wife Noemi; a sister Guadalupe Mecalco Rodriguez and husband Ismael; paternal grandparents Jose Mecalco and wife Maria Guadalupe; maternal grandparents Paz and wife Hernanda Sosa.

He is survived by two Sons Belino Mecalco Jr. of Greely, Colorado and Tomas Mecalco of O'Donnell; a sister Aurora Gonzalez of Sullivan, Texas; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
