Memorial service for Mr. Celso Mata, 62 of Lubbock will begin 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 3, 2023, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Joe Martinez officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.

In the early evening of Wednesday, October 18, 2023, Celso Mata, went to be with the Lord. He was born on January 20, 1961, in Lubbock to late Pedro Mata and Valentina Ramirez.

Celso's career in the restaurant business spanned numerous years and showcased his passion for providing delicious meals and warm hospitality. He was known for his genuine kindness, making all who crossed his path feel welcome and cherished. His easy-going and laid-back personality created a comforting atmosphere wherever he went.

Celso was an avid collector of coins, while adding to his collection the coins brought him joy and excitement. He also enjoyed going on walks, this brought him a sense of serenity.

He is preceded in death by his father Pedro Mata; his mother Valentina Ramirez; and a brother Frank Mata. 

He is survived by his brother Pete Mata and beloved wife Mary from Lubbock; five sisters Maggie Moreno from Lubbock, Lupe Mata from San Antonio, Estella and husband Anthony Martinez from Washington, Angie and husband Bobby Perez from Arlington, and Rosario and husband Isidro Rodriguez from Lubbock; a host of nieces and nephews.
