Clara L. Blakemore

The family of Clara Lee Blakemore, 93 of Lubbock will receive friends and family from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025, at New Hope Baptist Church (2002 Birch Ave, Lubbock, TX 79404) with Pastor Larry Polk officiating. Burial will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home and Chapel.

Clara Lee Blakemore was born February 14th, 1932, in Rockdale, TX to the parentage of Matthew and Clara Colquitt. She attended Douglas High School in Quanah, Texas and Butler College in Tyler, TX. She married Rubie Blakemore, Sr. November 8, 1952, until his death March 15, 1983.

Mrs. Blakemore loved the Lord and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church since 1952.

Mrs. Blakemore was employed at Reese Air Force Base for 37 years. She also was a foster grandmother at Lubbock Supported State Living Center for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Matthew Colquitt; birth mom, Mabel Biggers; two brothers, Herbert Johnson and Willie “Bill” Johnson; two sisters, Barbara Love and Ruby Moses; two sons, Robert Boykin and Ronald Blakemore.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Patricia Blakemore Becknell; two sons, Jerry Colquitt (Alma) and Rubie Blakemore, Jr.; two sisters Florence Turner and Glenda Wright; one brother Leroy “Gabby” Johnson (Louise); 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; and one “daughter from another mother”, Anna Chatman; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and church family.
