Viewing for Helen Surita, 69 of Lubbock will begin Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. the same evening. Funeral Mass will begin 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2025 at Christ the King Cathedral with Father Very Rev. Jose Kochuparambil officiating. Burial will follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.
On the afternoon of Sunday, May 25, 2025, Helen went to be with the Lord. She was born on December 23, 1955, in Hagerman, New Mexico to the late Remigio and Lily Surita. Helen dedicated her life to her family and her work, leaving an indelible mark on those who had the privilege to know her.
Helen received her EKG Certification from Covenant, a testament to her passion for helping others through her chosen career. Her professionalism and kind demeanor made her a beloved figure among her colleagues and patients alike. Beyond her professional life, Helen served as an usher at Christ the King Cathedral for numerous years, embodying her deep faith and commitment to her community as a good Catholic.
In her personal life, Helen found profound joy in the little things. She was an avid gardener, tending to her beloved flowers with care and love. Helen had a creative spirit; she enjoyed doing crafts and crocheting, often using her skills to create gifts for her loved ones. She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed cheering her team on to victory. But perhaps her greatest delight came from attending her grandchildren's sports events, these moments were very special to her and she treasured them deeply.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother Ben Surita.
She is survived by a son Gregory Alvarado (Bernadette); a daughter Valerie Salinas (Michael); Her previous partner Henry Alvarado; a brother Joseph Surita; sisters Sagrario Rodriguez, Martha Surita, Sylvia Chairez and Rachel Escobar; four grandchildren Joshua Alvarado, Noah Alvarado, Danielle Martinez and Destanie Salinas.
