Hortensia A. Botello

Mrs. Hortensia A. Botello, 85 of Slaton passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022.  Visitation will begin Monday, September 19, 2022, at Calvillo Funeral Home-Lubbock from 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 p.m. the same evening. A Celebration of Life will begin, 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Bible Baptist Church-Slaton with Rev. Chris Downer officiating. Burial will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. All arrangements were made under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.

Hortensia was born April 19, 1937, in Hondo, TX to the late Jose and Juanita Alcorta. She later went on to marry Josue Botello on February 4, 1954, in Lubbock. Hortensia was a devoted Baptist, she enjoyed reading the bible every day and attending bible classes when she could. In her spare time Hortensia loved to go shopping especially at Target, sewing, taking pictures and cooking. Everyone knew she made the best tamales and barbacoa. Her family will always remember how she was a friend to everyone, she never met a stranger, and she always opened her home. Hortensia will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Josue Botello; her parents Jose and Juanita Alcorta; son Joe Botello Jr.; two sisters Sophia Narvaez and Hermila Villarreal; brothers Benancio Alcorta, Marcelino Alcorta, Jose M. Alcorta Jr. and Johnny Alcorta.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son Daniel and wife Juanita Botello of Slaton; three daughters Mary Alicia Chapa of Slaton, Andrea Ariaz of Lubbock and Olivia and husband Gene Arguello of Slaton; two sisters Lydia Ambriz of Slaton and Eva Ambriz of New Mexico; a brother Manuel Alcorta of Lubbock; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
