Viewing and visitation for Irene McCumber Wehrly, 70 of Lubbock, will begin Wednesday, December 3, 2025, 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. at Calvillo Funeral Home with a rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. the same evening. Under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.
On the evening of Friday, November 28, 2025, Irene went to be with the Lord. She was born February 16, 1955, in San Antonio, Texas to the late Jose and Juanita McCumber. Irene epitomized the role of a caregiver throughout her life. She dedicated numerous years as a warehouse worker for Santa's Best, where her hardworking nature mirrored the kindness, she extended to all those around her.
Irene was well known for her gentle and caring personality, bringing a sense of comfort and love to her family and friends. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was walking, tending to her hobbies of sewing and completing 3D puzzles, or enjoying movie nights at home. A true culinary enthusiast, she delighted in cooking, often expressing her love through food. Her passion extended to collecting coins and stones, a hobby that revealed her appreciation for small treasures in life. She also enjoyed going to pet stores and traveling when she could.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jose and Juanita McCumber, a grandson Jose Alfredo Pardo Flores and her siblings.
Irene is survived by her husband Paul Wehrly of Lubbock. Her devoted daughter, Priscilla McCumber Pardo Flores, and son-in-law, Pedro Flores Jr. She proudly cherished her grandchildren, Zi-Ray Flores, Meaghan Flores (Joey Sanchez), Courtney Flores, and Maddison Flores (Gabe Garcia), who brought joy and laughter into her life. Additionally, she was blessed with great-grandchildren, Mikeal Flores Gonzales and Mateo Flores Sanchez, and her best friend Alfredo Pardo all of Lubbock, who will carry on her legacy of love and care.
Irene's gentle spirit and loving presence will be profoundly missed by her family, who remember her not only for her nurturing ways but for the unforgettable moments filled with laughter and warmth. As we reflect on Irene’s life, we celebrate a woman who embraced the world with kindness and dedication. Her beautiful spirit leaves a lasting impact, and her memory will be cherished in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her.
