Juan Valverde Jr.

August 1, 1952 — August 24, 2025

Lubbock

On the afternoon of Sunday, August 24, 2025, Juan Valverde Jr. of Tahoka went to be with the Lord at the age of seventy-three years old. He was born August 1, 1952, in Live Oak County, Texas to the late Juan Sr. and Leonor Valverde. Later in life on May 24, 1969, he went on to marry Elena Liendo in Tahoka cherishing fifty-six years of a loving marriage.

A certified welder by trade, Juan approached his work with precision and dedication, embodying the essence of craftsmanship. His determination to do things “his way or no way” encapsulated the strength of his character, as did his unmistakable grouchy charm, which endeared him to many. Beneath that tough exterior was a heart filled with warmth, with a particular fondness for his role as the best dad and grandfather, a title he cherished deeply.

Juan was remarkably multifaceted, spending his free time doing what he loved most. He found peace in his garden, joy at the fishing hole, and fulfillment in the kitchen, where he loved to cook and bake. Dancing and playing pool were among his favorite pastimes, creating moments of joy and laughter that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him. His love for livestock and his knack for mechanics were testaments to his hands-on spirit, and he took pride in the thrill of racing his beloved GTO.

As we mourn the passing of Juan Valverde Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with passion, family, and the virtues he held dear. His spirit will forever be remembered in our hearts, a guiding light for all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Juan Sr. and Leonor Valverde; a brother Molly Valverde; two sisters Mary Ann Valverde and Maria Prestridge.

He is survived by his loving wife Elena Valverde of Tahoka; two sons Anastacio Hernandez (Bertha) of Tahoka and Lupe "Pie" Hernandez of Tahoka; daughters Norma Jean Hernandez of Tahoka, Blanca Hernandez (Chico Garcia) of Tahoka, Stina Hernandez and Justin Hartway of Tahoka; a sister Rosie Valverde of Arizona; eight grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Arrangements were made under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.
