Viewing and visitation for Mr. Lorenzo N. Cruz, 85 of Lubbock, will begin at 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., Friday, August 8, 2025, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. the same evening. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Joe Morin officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Lorenzo went to be with the Lord. He was born September 5, 1939, in Characas, San Luis, Potosi, Mexico to the late Facundo and Maria Cruz. Later in life on April 1, 1983, he went on to marry Oralia Vasquez in Lubbock, Texas cherishing forty-two years of marriage.
Lorenzo N. Cruz, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 5, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on September 5, 1939, Lorenzo lived a rich life marked by dedication to his family, community, and his various professions.
A skilled auto mechanic, Lorenzo was the proud owner of Coronado Auto Service, where he earned the respect and gratitude of many clients. His work ethic extended beyond the garage; he also embraced life as a cowboy, ranch hand, and truck driver, experiences that shaped his character and provided countless stories for his loved ones. Additionally, he served in the Mexican Army during his time in Mexico.
Lorenzo's vibrant personality was evident in his love for music and dance. For eighteen years, he played his guitar at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Lubbock, displaying not only his musical talent but also his devotion to his faith community. He was an active member of the Guadalupanos, reflecting his deep cultural roots and sense of belonging. His passion for cooking made him a beloved chef among family and friends, further solidifying his role as the heart of gatherings.
He joins in eternal rest his parents, Facundo and Maria Cruz, as well as his sisters, Dolores Cruz and Berta Cruz, who preceded him in death
Known for his love of children, Lorenzo greatly cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved spouse, Oralia Vasquez of Lubbock, and a loving family that includes son Guillermo Cruz and wife Kim of San Marcos, son John Cruz of Dallas, and son Scotty Vasquez and wife Melanie of Kyle. His daughter, Alice Cruz, resides in Dallas, while Marissa Vasquez of Pflugerville honors his memory alongside her partner, J.J. Lorenzo also leaves behind his sister, Celia Prieto of Del Rio, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose lives he touched deeply.
Lorenzo N. Cruz will be remembered not only for his numerous contributions to his community and life’s work but also for the love and joy he brought to those around him.
