Viewing and visitation for Mr. Luis Hernandez, 66 of Lubbock, will be 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2026, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. the same day. Funeral Mass will begin 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Martin Pina officiating. Burial will follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.

Luis Hernandez, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, at the age of 66. He was born on October 8, 1959, in Lubbock to the late Aurelio and Genoveva Hernandez. Later in life on December 31, 1988, Luis went on to marry Araceli Sanchez cherishing thirty-seven years of a loving marriage.

Luis dedicated much of his life to his work as a welder for Herman's Tanks, where he was known for his skill and unwavering commitment to quality.

A proud member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Luis drew strength from his faith. He lived a life rich in joy and passion, often immersing himself in hobbies that brought him great happiness. He found solace in fishing, a simple pleasure that allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy quiet moments away from the hustle and bustle of life. Balancing work with family, he took to working in his shop on projects and relished working on house framing and his yard, creating spaces that reflected his love for craftsmanship. The sound of lawn mowers became a signature background to his weekends, where he would proudly maintain his yard, a testament to his hard work and dedication.

Luis was also part of a large, close-knit family and he cherished every moment spent with them. The love he had for his grandchildren was immeasurable, as they held a special place in his heart.

Luis Hernandez will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering dedication to his family, and the joy he found in the simplest of pleasures. His legacy, rooted in love, hard work, and faith, will continue to inspire those who knew him. As we celebrate his life, let us remember the laughter, kindness, and unwavering love that he shared so freely. May he rest in peace, surrounded by loved ones who have gone before him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Aurelio and Genoveva Hernandez; three Brothers Trinidad Hernandez, Johnny Hernandez; a half-brother Madaleno Hernandez and two half-sisters Janie Lopez and Patsy Vela.

He is survived by his loving wife Araceli Hernandez of Lubbock; three sons Gilbert Hernandez of Lubbock, Randy Hernandez of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Rene Hernandez (Marcoe) of Lubbock; a daughter Princess Hernandez (Joel) of Lubbock; three brothers Willie Hernandez, Ruben Hernandez and Mario Hernandez all of Lubbock; five sisters Marisa Hernandez, Christina Hernandez, Terri Hernandez, Sylvia Hernandez and Adela Hernandez; seven grandchildren all of Lubbock
