Richard "Big Rick" Martinez, a beloved figure known for his warmth, humor, and generous spirit, passed away on May 9, 2026. Born on December 24, 1971, in Brownfield, Texas, Rick's life was marked by dedication, both in his professional career and in his relationships with family and friends.
Richard graduated from Ralls High School in 1990 and pursued further education at the University of Central Arkansas. His commitment to his work spanned over twenty-five years as a bail bondsman in Arkansas—a career in which he earned respect for his integrity and steadfastness. Later, he relocated to Lubbock, where he served as a parking attendant at Preston Smith International Airport, continuing to bring a friendly face and helpful hand to those around him.
Known affectionately as "Big Rick," he was cherished for his jovial nature and the genuine joy he found in sharing laughter and good times with those he loved. His big heart was evident not only through his personality but also in the relationships he nurtured throughout his life.
Rick is remembered by his surviving family members: brothers Jimmy Martinez of Ralls, Texas; Raymond Martinez and his wife Rachelle of Beeville, Texas; and Joe Martinez and his wife Staci of Conway, Arkansas; as well as his sister Hortencia Puente of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was also a beloved uncle to a host of nieces and nephews who will carry fond memories of their uncle’s kindness and spirited character.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose G. and Belia Martinez, as well as siblings Oralia Villanueva and Robert Martinez. Their memories live on in the hearts of all who knew Richard.
Richard "Big Rick" Martinez leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends who had the privilege to know him.
