Viewing and visitation for Richard Gorostiza, 60 of Lubbock, will begin 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will take place the same day beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church-Lubbock with Father Martin Pina officiating. All arrangements were made under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home and Chapel.
In the early morning of September 29, 2023, Richard Gorostiza went to be with the Lord. He was born on December 3, 1962, in Wellington, Texas to his parents Martin and Maria Gorostiza. Later in life on February 14, 1982, Richard went on to marry Ester Silva in Lubbock.
Richard's career as a mechanic spanned for numerous years, during which he displayed a remarkable talent and dedication to his craft. He approached every task with meticulous attention to detail and always went the extra mile to ensure that his work was done to perfection. His career also gave way to his interest in Nascar Racing, he enjoyed the thrill of the race so much, he was even part of a racing team at Lubbock Motor Speedway.
Furthermore, he had an adventurous spirit and loved traveling the world, exploring new places excited him. Richard enjoyed watching football, particularly his favorite team the Denver Broncos. Among Richard's hobbies he had an unwavering love for animals, he would often take in animals and provide them with a loving home.
However, Richard's true passion in life was being a grandfather, whether fishing, watching his grandchildren's faces light up with excitement when they caught their fish, or just simply just talking, playing, and teaching he created a special bond with his grandchildren. Mason and Catalina will forever cherish his memory in their hearts.
He is preceded in death by his parents Martin and Maria Gorostiza; siblings Martin Gorostiza Jr., Diana Martinez, Rogelio Gorostiza, Pete Gorostiza, San Juanita Nieto and Rosa Gallegos.
He is survived by his wife Ester Gorostiza and their children Amanda Gorostiza, Andrew Gorostiza, and Anthony Gorostiza all of Lubbock; His siblings Olga Herrera of Weslaco, Minerva Castillo of Dallas, Santos Gorostiza of California, Milton Gorostiza of Lubbock; Jose Luis Gorostiza of Dallas, Jaime Gorostiza and wife Vicky of Lubbock, Yolanda and husband Frank Rendon of Ralls; his grandchildren Mason Santos and Catalina Gorostiza, both from Lubbock.
