A Memorial Service for Ruben DeAnda, 65 of Shallowater be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2025 with Pastor Jr. Limas officiating at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements were made under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.
On the morning of Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Ruben went to be with the Lord. He was born on August 30, 1960, in Lubbock to Juan and Susana DeAnda. His life was filled with laughter, love, and an unyielding passion for helping others.
Ruben was a man of many talents, having received his plumbing certifications from South Plains College, where he honed the skills that would serve him well throughout his life. Early in his career, Ruben worked at Texas Instruments as a semi conductor, where he displayed a remarkable aptitude for technology and innovation. His professional journey led him to Texas Tech University, where he continued to apply his skills and knowledge. He also dedicated his talents as a handyman for the Lubbock Independent School District (LISD), for numerous years.
His dedication to his craft was evident, and he took great pride in the work he did for his community. He was not only a skilled tradesman but also a compassionate person, always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors alike, exemplifying kindness in every aspect of his life.
His personality was one that could light up any room. Ruben was a natural jokester, gracing those around him with his quick wit and clever humor. His ability to find laughter in the everyday moments created a bond with many who were fortunate enough to know him. Those who had the privilege of sharing time with Ruben will always remember his playful banter and the warmth of his smile.
A man of creativity and ingenuity, Ruben had a passion for tinkering with projects. He embraced challenges with zest, whether it involved fixing something around the house or crafting something imaginative. One of his most memorable creations was a stroller fashioned from a baby bicycle seat and a lawn mower, made especially for his niece. This endearing act epitomized Ruben's loving spirit and deep devotion to his family, particularly his cherished nieces and nephews, whom he adored greatly.
He is preceded in death by his father Juan DeAnda; a nephew Joshua DeAnda and his stepfather Frank Ybarra.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother Susana DeAnda of Lubbock; a brother Augustine DeAnda and wife Patricia of Forney; five sisters Suzie and husband Venancio Rodriguez of San Antonio, Debra Castillo of Harlingen, Melva DeAnda of Houston, Belinda Colmenero of Lubbock and Cindy DeAnda of Lubbock; nieces and nephews Venessa Wurzer, Angelica Williams, Julianna Castillo, Isabella Castillo, DeAnda Colmenero, Rafaella Colmenero, Gabriella Colmenero, Megyn Castillo and Jake Castillo, their father Mike Castillo; great niece and nephews Charlotte, Theo, Kurt and Grayson.
