Family and friends will gather at Green Lawn Church of Christ at 10:00 am on Friday October 2nd, 2026, to celebrate the cherished life of our beloved sister and friend, who went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday September 29th at 7:28am.
She was born to Sarah and Donald Hilliard on December 4th, 1961, in Springerville, Arizona. In her early life, she did ballet and loved helping her younger siblings. She loved scrapbooking and was a member of abc scrapbook club. She also was a valued member of her community at Green Lawn Church of Christ.
Serena started working at the young age of 14. In 1996, Serena began her work at the Lubbock Rape Crisis Center, which became Voice of Hope in 2012. For 30 years, she was a certified Sexual Assault Advocate and a fierce champion for survivors, staff, and volunteers alike. Serena trained countless people who went on to serve the community, including future Voice of Hope leaders, attorneys, doctors and law enforcement officers. Her office door was always open, and everyone who walked through it found a safe place to sit and talk.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Hilliard; her brother Donnie Hilliard; and her little sister, Malissa Hilliard.
Her surviving family includes her mother, Sarah Hilliard; Her brothers, Jesse and Clifford Hilliard; her nieces and nephews, Jeffery, Stephen, and Erin Hilliard, Macy Seymour, and Jacob Mannon; and her precious great-nieces and great-nephews, Easton, Gracie, Lorena, and Isla.
