Funeral mass for Valentino "Val" Barela,Sr. , 52, of Lubbock will be Tuesday April 2, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Msgr. Jim O'Connor officiating. Burial will be at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home and Chapel.
Val passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013, in Lubbock, Texas. He was born on February 14, 1961, in Lubbock, Texas, to the late Benito (1990) and Olivia Barela. He married Olga Ortega on August 5, 1978, in Lubbock.
Val loved to fish, hunt, and was a avid Dallas Cowboy fan. He was a life long resident of Lubbock and a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife Olga Barela of Lubbock, two sons, Valentino Barela Jr. and Anthony Barela, both of Lubbock; four brothers, Benny Barela, Raymond Barela, Danny Barela, and Ruben Barela, all of Lubbock; three sisters, Connie Barela, Gloria Barela, Diane Barela, all of Lubbock; and 5 grandchildren.
The family will gather at Calvillo Funeral Home Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. till 9:30 a.m before the service.
There will be no Visitation or Rosary for Val.
