Sofia Cortez

Sofia Cortez, 59 of Lubbock passed away Friday, October 15, 2021.  Visitation will begin Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel (Lubbock) from 2:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m., with a rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. the same evening. Funeral Mass will begin, 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 21, 2021, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Martin Pina officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home and Chapel.

Sofia was born August 28, 1962, in Lubbock to the late Francisco Soto and Isabel Trevino Torres. Later in life Sofia met and fell in Love with Ruben Cortez in 1985. She was a devoted Catholic, a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for numerous years and was very involved in the church. Sofia was a homemaker and assisted in operating the family business AAA Firewood. Sofia’s greatest passion however was her family and her little dog Meeklo. They will always cherish the love she had for them and the memories they have with her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Isidro Soto and a sister Nora Soto.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Ruben Cortez of Lubbock; a son Samuel Soto and spouse Laura of Lubbock; a daughter Rosa and husband Dennis Vasquez of Lubbock; four brothers Rene Soto of Alamo, Texas and Robert Soto of Lubbock, Ray Garcia of Arkansas, and Frankie Garcia of San Juan, Texas; three sisters Norma Alonzo of Lubbock, Celina Gallegos of Lubbock and Becky Soto of San Juan, Texas; four grandchildren.
